Spanish Jesuit monks founded the first mission in Baja California in the 17th century in Loreto. These served on the one hand as a religious center for the conversion of the natives, and on the other hand as a supply center for the settlers who moved in, as well as bases for the Spanish army. The Jesuits played a decisive role in the colonization of Mexico. In the meantime, the place has developed into the number one water sports paradise in Baja, thanks to the spectacular coastline and the dreamlike, unspoiled beaches. Here you can stay a little longer – either actively hiking, biking, kayaking, snorkeling or diving. The wildlife here is very diverse. High-flying frigate birds, proud blue-footed boobies and squadrons of pelicans can be spotted at any time. The warm, crystal clear waters offer exceptional opportunities to see sea lions, dolphins and whales in the wild.
