Driving through the endless cactus desert of Baja California, Mulegé seems like a mirage with its green lushness. Groves of date palms stretch along the river, which after a few turns flows into the Sea of Cortés. Gentle waves roll over the fine sandy beach. The climate is mild, the atmosphere relaxed, the tranquility enriching. An entertaining walk leads to the deserted sandy beach and to a lighthouse with a fantastic panoramic view of the coast. Mulegé is also the gateway to Bahía Concepción, a large bay in the Gulf of California, about 30 km to the south. The white sand beaches with sparkling water, the surreal blue tones in the bay and the surprising lack of people make this area a gem for swimmers, snorkelers and kayakers.
