Oaxaca
The state of Oaxaca offers the traveler an attractive mix of sights with an irresistible variety of landscapes from the high mountains to the beaches on the Pacific Ocean. In the highlands are the historic cities of Monte Albán, Mitla and Yagul of the indigenous Mixtec and Zapotec cultures. The fertile valleys are full of archaeological evidence and indigenous presence. Finally, the capital, Oaxaca, has valuable art-historical treasures and impressive colonial buildings. The city is also called “the most beautiful in Mexico”. The state also includes a considerable stretch of coastline on the Pacific Ocean. The beach towns of importance are Huatulco as a sophisticated Pacific resort and Puerto Escondido as a surfing hotspot. In this tropical climate, the pace is never too hectic, and the atmosphere is calm and relaxed. The coast of Oaxaca offers some of the best surf spots in all of Mexico.
